Following its long awaited official opening yesterday, Apple has announced that the Mac App Store has seen more than one million app downloads in its opening 24 hours of trading.
Launching with over 1,000 free and paid-for apps the Mac App Store is available as a free download for all Mac OS X Snow Leopard users and features desktop and laptop friendly applications across a number of categories including Education, Games, Graphics & Design, Lifestyle and Productivity.
“We’re amazed at the incredible response the Mac App Store is getting,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. The Cupertino based company’s big wig went on to add: “Developers have done a great job bringing apps to the store and users are loving how easy and fun the Mac App Store is.”
Following on from the hugely successful App Store that supplies content for the company’s iOS devices, the Mac App Store allows users to browse available applications via new a noteworthy header as well as staff favourites and current popular downloads.
Despite these staggering opening day download figures, the opening 24 hours of the Mac App Store’s existence was not entirely plain sailing for Apple with hackers cracking open the service and finding a devastatingly simple way of downloading paid-for applications without having to pay.
